PAVLINA LUCAS

Born in Nicosia CY (1970), Lucas studied Photojournalism and Art History at Boston University (B.Sc 1993) and Architecture at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University (M.Arch 2000). In 2000 she started working with Swiss Pritzker prize laurate Peter Zumthor as architect-in-charge for Walter De Maria´s 360° I Ching Gallery at Dia:Beacon NY, Bruder Klaus Feldkapelle in Wachendorf Germany (completed 2007), Hotel Therme Vals room renovation (2002 edition) in Switzerland, and JP Williams House in Bedford NY. She also led the team for the competitions Kunstgalerie Hinter dem Giesshaus 1 in Berlin, and New School of Architecture at Cornell University. In 2004 she established her own practice in Cyprus while maintaining a freelance relation with the office of Peter Zumthor, collaborating on projects such as the new Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Allmannajuvet Zinc Mine Museum in Norway, and the House of Seven Gardens in Quatar. Projects in Cyprus include Yiorkadjis Residence (completed 2006), Weaver´s House in the UNESCO World Heritage settlement of Fikardou (completed 2007), and Kush lounge in Nicosia. Lucas moved to Oslo in 2008 to join the Oslo School of Architecture, where she developed her PhD research project The Photographic Absolute: An Architectural Beginning (completed 2014) and conducted the master level workshop Photography in Practice. In 2015 Lucas re-established her practice in Oslo as a creative atelier focusing on small-scale architecture and design projects, working with a select team of craftsmen to materialize these.
